A San Jose transient was arrested in Gilroy in connection with a September homicide.

Rogelio “Cantaro” Mendoza was arrested in Gilroy Oct. 4 in connection with the murder of San Jose resident Octavio “Bruno” Medrano, 41, police said. San Jose police did not release the arrest information until Wednesday afternoon.

San Jose police responded to a welfare check on the 100 block of Roundtable Drive, 6:25 p.m. Sept. 21, concerning the possibility that a man was thrown from a vehicle, police said. Police found a man there that has been assaulted. After being taken to the hospital, Medrano died the next day.

San Jose Police Officer Enrique Garcia said Mendoza was “hiding” in Gilroy. He was booked in Santa Clara County Jail for murder.

Two suspects remain at large.

The Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in Medrano’s death.

Anyone with information regarding the homicide can call the San Jose Police Department Homicide Unit at 277-5283. To report information anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 947-STOP. Call 888-813-8389 to donate to the foundation’s reward fund.
