California Highway Patrol officers arrested two motorists for driving under the influence at the first of a string of sobriety checkpoints scheduled for the area.
On Friday, more than 500 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was located on Masten Avenue at Manna Way.
“Our main goal of this checkpoint was to get the message across to the public that drinking and driving do not mix, and that the CHP is constantly out looking for impaired drivers,” said Capt. Tim Saxon, commander of the Hollister-Gilroy CHP Area office. “Every impaired driver that is taken off the road is a potential life saved and too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed by intoxicated drivers.”
The CHP plans to conduct another sobriety checkpoint Aug. 27 in San Benito County.
