Monte Verde Vineyards

Monte Verde Vineyards is small family-run winery owned by Todd and Alexia Johnson. What started as a backyard hobby in 2000 with 300 Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines has culminated into an award-winning winery today. Alexia was born and raised in Spain and so naturally, the focus is on Spanish wines. They produce an Estate Tempranillo as well as their flagship Estate blend of Merlot, Cab and Tempranillo, called Tres Amigos. They also carry a Spanish white varietal, Albarino. Using only French barrels, their wines are produced in small lots and production is kept to less than 500 cases per year.

Gilroy family’s roots steeped in Mayflower history

The woman staring out at me was not smiling. She had not seen the light of day in many years but had been kept safely hidden away, thanks to grandma's packrat tendencies, love of genealogy and appreciation for her New England roots. I rediscovered the photo last week in a box that had not been opened since 1970, when my grandma passed away.

The Hoey Barns on Hecker Pass

While most Gilroyans are familiar with that Hecker Pass landmark, The Barn at Hoey Ranch, in the future you may want to refer to the BarnS at Hoey Ranch.

A long family line of wine and garlic lovers

Rapazzini Winery on U.S. 101 and Highway 25 is the embodiment of all that is sacred in Gilroy: wine, garlic and family ties.
