‘Dreamgirls’ electrifies

When the lights dim and the conductor taps his baton for the orchestra’s attention, anticipation spreads through the audience. Sometimes we are pleased, and sometimes we are disappointed. “Dreamgirls” definitely does not disappoint. This electrifying production moves at a wild pace that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the final curtain.

It's hard to believe, but this month marks the end of my thirteenth year of writing this column. As I embark on the adventure of a fourteenth year, it still feels like I have barely scratched the surface of all there is to tell in a community as rich as Gilroy's!

Explore hiking trails of former military base

Since the closure of Fort Ord in 1994, the 28,000 acres that comprised the military base have been spun off into various civilian uses. As a part of that process, on April 12, 2012, President Obama signed a declaration setting aside 14,650 acres—half of the former base—as Fort Ord National Monument. The Bureau of Land Management currently oversees 7,200 acres, and the remainder will be turned over to the BLM once the military completes environmental remediation.

Rehab for baby bobcats

WERC, the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center of Morgan Hill, is celebrating 20 years of successfully raising and releasing orphaned or injured bobcat kittens back to their native habitat using innovative and life-saving techniques.
