With a unanimous vote Monday night, the city council passed Gilroy’s first open government law, putting behind it a year of debate and review that included emotional and personal accusations.
The council approved Councilman Perry Woodward’s signature “sunshine ordinance” with a 7-0 vote Monday night. Councilman Peter Arellano joined the majority after initially voting against the ordinance earlier this month.
The law will go into effect Dec. 17, and the council will meet to appoint three members to the Open Government Commission at its next regular meeting, Dec. 15. To read the previous story outlining the details of the ordinance, click here.
