UPDATE: Man stabbed in “random act of violence”

A 74-year-old man was stabbed on the 100 block of Lewis Street at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in what police are calling a “random act of violence.” 

The victim was taken by ambulance to a Bay Area trauma center for a wound to his torso. Medical personnel reported that the injury was non life-threatening. 

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s with blonde hair, wearing dirty tan clothing. The suspect allegedly had no connection to the victim and the motive for the stabbing is unknown. 

The victim reported he was standing on the sidewalk when a man with a knife walked by and randomly stabbed him in the torso. The suspect’s identity is not known to police. The victim was once a transient but had recently found a place to live, according to Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza. 

Espinoza said that the incident may have been captured by the security cameras at Pinnacles Bank on Monterey and Lewis Streets. If this is the case, police plan to release the video to the public.
