Morgan Hill and Gilroy are expecting a high of 82 degrees today and low 80s Saturday, an unusually warm temperature for mid-November.

Diana Henderson, a forecaster for the National Weather Service in Monterey, said wind movement – coupled with abundant sunshine – is causing the temperature rise. Wind is coming from the inland to the ocean, instead of the other way around, she said. It’s the cold current along the coast that keeps the area cool in the summer and temperatures low at this time of year, Henderson said, and the high pressure wind shifting is also a factor. High pressure wind is when the corkscrew-like wind pattern switches from clockwise, moving warm air up, to counter-clockwise, pushing the warm air down, she said.

Gilroy is expecting temperatures in the low 80s today with a possibility of beating its record high of 85 for the same day in 1995, Henderson said.

Forecasts are made for Morgan Hill, but no records are kept for the city, she said.

Saturday, Gilroy and Morgan Hill are expected to hit 80 degrees.

Then next week, temperatures are expected to drop into the 70s and by Friday down into the high-60s.
