Beloved husband of Dominga Castellano Valdez of Hollister passed away Monday evening at Mabie Skilled Nursing Center Northside at the age of 87 years. Funeral Services are pending. A complete obituary will appear later this week.
Private family services will take place at a later date for Barbara L. Budz, of Coos Bay. Cremation Rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.
Mateo "Matt" Tijerina, aged 80 years, passed away at his residence, November 6th with his family by his side. Matt as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was a native of Sabinal, TX; was educated in Texas, and moved from Texas to Hollister 50 years ago. Matt worked in the wine industry for 25 years with Almaden Vineyards and upon his retirement, started his own landscaping business. He enjoyed being with his wife and family; the out of doors gardening and fishing, as well as watching the 49-ers, Giants, and A's games. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Teamsters local union in Fresno; had been a volunteer fireman for the City Of Hollister for eight years; was very active in the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was devoted to sharing the gospel with others. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Santos Tijerina of Hollister; his children and their spouses Anita Correa of Hollister; Rosalinda Howard (Joe) of Santa Cruz, Gilbert Tijeina (Debbie) of Sacramento, David Tijerina (Lisa) of Morgan Hill, and Velia Dozal of Hollister. 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, his brother Benito Tijerina (Margo), and many nieces and nephews survive.
Mary Jane Ettenborough passed away Tuesday evening at Mabie Northside Skilled Nursing Facility at the age of 94. Born in Long Beach, she had lived in Mountain View nearly 40 years prior to coming to Hollister 5 years ago. Along with being a homemaker, she formerly was a credit counselor for The Emporium.
Hazel passed away on December 17 at the age of 93 in her beloved home where she lived for 70 years. She was a long time resident of San Benito County, coming to Hollister from her home in Upland as the bride of her orchardist husband "Doug" following their marriage on New Year's Eve 1934.
Ernestine Lavagnino Agnew passed away peacefully in her Fresno home on February 20, 2009 with her husband and family at her side. She was born on June 2, 1927 in San Juan Bautista to Ernest Lavagnino and Sarah Ahern. She graduated from Hollister High in 1945; she was a graduate of San Jose State in 1949 and received her teaching credential. She married Allen Agnew in 1950. They settled in San Luis Obispo where a large family was started until moving to Fresno in 1965.
