Loves Cheers and Jeers, and Here are a Few Kudos for Special Gilroy People

Dear Editor,

I often like to read the cheers and jeers in the paper. I particularly like the cheers. I have some of my own cheers to offer:

Cheers go to the teachers who cultivate the love of learning. For us, those particular cheers go to: Debbie Luoma (rhetoric), Faith Peterman (piano), Mary Jane Renz-Schleich (nature study), Cynthia Walker (algebra II), Loya Jackson (Luigi Aprea) and Karen’s Art Zone. Thanks for making the extra effort to go beyond the basics and develop true understanding.

Cheers for the Gilroy Police Department, especially for Rachel Munoz who took the time to help our little neighborhood bully see that crime doesn’t pay.

Cheers to the firemen , especially those of the Las Animas Station on Wren Avenue who took the time to teach my children the necessity of fire safety and security. Thank you for always being available.

Cheers to the Gilroy Department of Recreation which finally has a theatre program that allows us to keep our children home on Sunday to focus upon our family – especially Erin Cross who has an incredible love and kindness toward children. Thank you Erin, for your unbelievable support in developing not only the stage presence of children but also their character to be honest and kind people.

Cheers go to those who work at the public library. We offer a great big hug to Mitzi who goes beyond providing service and lifts each person she helps with a smile and calling people by name. She actually takes time to know who you are!

Cheers go to South Valley Civic Theatre volunteers. We especially like to thank Catherine Hepner, O’Hara Family, Dewey family, Kaiser family, The Tom Family, Colleen and James Chipman and April Ouellette. So often the service rendered is only visible to those directly involved. Thank you for your significant contributions in providing professional entertainment for our local area.

Cheers go to the Gilroy Armory allowing us to serve those in need of a warm meal and a place to sleep.

Support the Salvation Army at Nob Hill Store on Friday

Dear Editor,

On Friday (Dec. 8), KSBW-TV will host a telethon to support the efforts of the Salvation Army in locations throughout the central valley. The site for Gilroy is Nob Hill General Store. Beginning at 8am, the anchors of the KSBW News Hour will telecast live from the store throughout the day. Donations of cash, canned food, new toys, clothing and blankets will be accepted. Throughout the day reports will be given on the air from all the surrounding communities on the amounts collected.

The Salvation Army provides food clothing, and PG&E help during the difficult months of winter. We encourage citizens to come out and support this very needed event. We also encourage business and organizations to take part and stop by with their donations. You can present your check and be interviewed on live TV. If you would like to know more, please cal Marvin or Roxie Thomas at 842-2480.

Gilroy is a great place to live because it has so many people with big hearts.

Marvin and Roxie Thomas, Gilroy
