Fitness Evolution announced it has purchased Gilroy Athletic Club, a full-service health club that has serviced Gilroy for many years. The newest addition to the rapidly expanding Fitness Evolution health club chain is located at 8540 Church St. in Gilroy. Within the spacious 30,000 square foot facility is cardio equipment, weight resistance machines, free weights, a group exercise studio, a spinning studio, racquetball courts and a childcare center. In addition, the club has saunas, steam rooms, tanning and hydro massage.

Keeping New Year’s resolutions is usually a good idea; failing to keep some resolutions can sometimes be quite costly.

The ribbon-cutting for One To Another Thrift Shop, 381-B First St. was held Dec. 4. The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A ministry of Pleasant Valley Church, it supports charities with a portion of proceeds going to locals in need. South County Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is an official Toys for Tots location. Residents can donate new, unwrapped toys at either South County Chrysler Jeep Dodge on the corner of Chestnut Street and Stutz Way or at South County Ram at 500 Stutz Way in Gilroy. Donations are accepted seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. From Nov. 28 to Dec. 6, South County CDJR will donate one toy for each car sold.

Jennifer Speno has joined John Blaettler Accountancy Corporation as a fully-licensed Certified Public Accountant. As staff accountant, she will be responsible for ongoing client support as well as new business development. Speno holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from San Jose State University and a California CPA license. She previously worked as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she specialized in life science and venture capital clients. Speno grew up in Gilroy and was Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen in 1987 and went on to serve as president of the 2005 Gilroy Garlic Festival. Speno is also a Leadership Gilroy graduate and a member of the Gilroy Assistance League (GALs) and Gilroy Rotary Club. She lives in Gilroy with her husband Jeff and their two children, Lindsay and Bradley.
