The City of Gilroy Recreation Department has been selected as a 2013 California Park and Recreation Society Award of Excellence recipient for The City of Gilroy Recreation Department Monthly Electronic Newsletter in the awards category of Marketing and Communications. The department was honored, along with Monica Sendejas (second from left), who created the newsletter, and proofreaders Judy Mireles-Janisch (second from right), Sondra Banks and Maria De Leon. SolarCity offers solar power at Best Buy
SolarCity, the nation’s largest residential solar power provider, is teaming with Best Buy, the world’s largest multi-channel consumer electronics retailer, to make residential solar electricity service available to customers through select Best Buy stores, including Gilroy. To celebrate the new offering, SolarCity will give every customer a $100 Best Buy gift card if they sign up for solar service through Best Buy before April 22. Details: bestbuysolarcity.com.
Indian returns to South Valley
Indian Motorcycle of Hollister will celebrate its grand opening April 11-12 at the new showroom located at 411 San Felipe Road. The Indian Motorcycle factory demo truck will be onsite both days giving motorcycling enthusiasts the opportunity to ride the new 2014 Indian Chief line-up. Also as part of the grand opening celebration Branscombe Richmond from the TV-series Renegade and Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame Inductee will make a special appearance all the way from the Aloha state for the two-day long celebration. There will also be plenty of music, food, beverages and giveaways to keep the party rolling. Demo rides are free and open to all licensed riders with a valid motorcycle endorsement. Cornerstone Title celebrates ribbon cutting
A ribbon cutting was held March 4 at Cornerstone Title Company, 870 Tennant Station in Morgan Hill. In attendance were members of Cornerstone Title Company, Chamber of Commerce ambassadors and staff and Marilyn Liebers, Mayor Pro Tem. Marilyn welcomed Cornerstone to the city, and they were warmly welcomed into the Chamber of Commerce as well. New office for Dr. Gabor
Pediatric dentist Dr. Erica Gabor, a 15-year member of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, recently moved her office to 18525 Sutter Blvd. In attendance at the ribbon cutting were members of the Chamber of Commerce, Chamber ambassadors and Gabor and her staff members, center.
New location for Rabobank
Rabobank N.A. is moving its Gilroy branch a few doors west on First Street. The first official business day at the new location will be March 10. The new branch at 805 First St. features a private parking lot for customers and a drive-up ATM. “Our new location will make banking with Rabobank more convenient and rewarding,” said Deanna Franklin, vice president and branch manager. Moving the branch will provide customers easier accessibility and a more pleasant banking experience.
Fifth Street Coffee celebrates grand opening
Almond coffee to almond champagne, there was a beverage for everyone at the grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration Nov. 21 at Fifth Street Coffee, 7501 Monterey St. Owner Yolanda Castaneda, her husband Daniel, their family, friends and Gilroy Chamber of Commerce ambassadors helped her snip the red ribbon and welcome the shop to downtown Gilroy.
Affordable Solar Roofs awarded
Affordable Solar Roofs is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious Certified Green Roofer designation from GAF, the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. The GAF Certified Green Roofer program was designed in consultation with the U.S. Green Building Council in order to recognize leading roofing companies for their commitment to sustainable business practices. As part of the designation process, Affordable Solar Roofs has participated in USGBC-approved training on the many important contributions the roofing system makes to a green home, including the advanced technology behind cool roofing; techniques for improving indoor air quality via proper attic ventilation; preparing a roof for solar energy; and asphalt shingle recycling. Genius Kids opening soon
Morgan Hill will soon be buzzing with giggles and laughter as kids of all ages will enjoy the new campus of Genius Kids, scheduled to open March 3 at 174 W. Main Ave. in Morgan Hill. Formerly the old post office, the red “barn” is now the home to the national franchise Genius Kids, which boasts 11 campuses in the Bay Area and growing. Kamal Gill, a resident of Morgan Hill, and her son Rohan Gill are excited on their new business venture and franchise. They have spent the last three months decorating and modifying the facility. The center will focus on infants, toddlers, preschoolers and transitional and enrichment kindergartners. Pickup from local schools for after school for grades kindergarten through fifth-grade will be offered.
Floss celebrates grand opening
The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce welcomes Drs. Leah and John Massoud, D.D.S. Their new practice, Floss Family Dental, is located at 17705 Hale Ave., Suite C3 in Morgan Hill. Joining The Massoud’s for the ribbon cutting were members of their family and dental staff from the office, along with Chamber ambassadors Leonette Stafford and Jayne Perryman and board members and staff Ed Machado, Rich Firato, John Horner and Erin Machado.
