Police arrested a man Friday morning outside a Gilroy middle school after he appeared to be under the influence of drugs, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

The GPD arrested Graham Allen, 48, one block south of the entrance to Brownell Middle School on Carmel Street on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and delaying or obstructing an officer, GPD Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said.

The school was on lockdown for a brief period after officers arrived at 8:22 a.m. Officers cleared the area at 8:52 a.m., Espinoza said.

Espinoza said the GPD received a call from a person at the school’s office saying a man near the school “appeared to be under the influence of some kind of drug.”
