Simmons starts in 10-2 win over W. Valley; Valenzuela starts in
4-2 nod over MPC.
GILROY – Freshman starter Kurt Simmons pitched six solid frames and five different Rams picked up RBIs in last Thursday’s 10-2 road victory over West Valley.

Simmons – a Gilroy High graduate – allowed one unearned run on three hits, five walks and four strikeouts before giving way to sophomore reliever Brian Crane – who gave up only one run and four hits over three innings of work.

Sophomore outfielder Shannon Fernandez (2-for-5, triple) and freshman slugger Rocco Costanza each finished with two runs batted in, while teammates Ritchie Rodriguez (2-for-4, double), Rene Dimas (1-for-3, two runs scored), and Nick Buzzetta (2-for-4, two runs scored) all had one RBI apiece.

The Gavilan dimaondmen scored one in the first – which was matched by West Valley in the second – two in the third and fifth frames, and five in the eighth.

Sophomore righty Paul Valenzuela went eight strong frames to lead the Rams to a 4-2 win over MPC on Saturday.

Sophomore Nick Bakich and freshman Christian Cedano both went 2-for-4, while seven other Gavilan batters registered hits in the 11-hit attack.

Buzzetta drove in two ribbies and Dimas and Bakich knocked in the other two runs.
