Volunteer Opportunities, Foster Homes Needed
PETCO-GILROY AND PETSMART-MILPITAS ADOPTION CENTERS - Our two permanent adoption centers are temporary homes for our little waifs as they await their forever homes. We need to staff each with reliable and dedicated volunteers so we know the kitties are well taken care of every day, so we hope you will decide to volunteer there caring for our kitties. If you can donate a few hours a week, we'd love to have your help. Please contact Linda Cunningham at [email protected] if you'd like to help at Petco-Gilroy, or Paula Myers at [email protected] you'd like to help at PetsMart-Milpitas. It's the best and happiest volunteer job you'll ever have, and is one way to love kitties without the full responsibility of actual pet ownership, help kitties without adding to your own household kitty headcount, or fill your kitty void from having an allergic family member!

GETTING OUT: ‘Orienteering’ adds challenge to enjoying the great outdoors
A couple Saturdays ago, I answered the call for trail building labor on the Jim Donnelly Trail at Henry Coe Park. On a cool cloudy morning, I drove out Gilroy Hot Springs Road to the Hunting Hollow park entrance. When I arrived, I could not have been more surprised. A parking lot that usually has half dozen cars and a few horse trailers was busting at the seams. There must have been 70 cars in that lot. I was lucky to find a spot.

Restoring the Delta is essential to Santa Clara County
The Delta is a critical component of our water system. Here in the Silicon Valley, 40 percent of our water supply passes through the Delta. Our imported water comes from the Sierra Nevada snowmelt and rainfall that fills rivers and streams that flow toward the San Francisco Bay. Much of that mountain water flows through the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta to communities throughout the Bay Area.
