In 2015, I will not …

It's the New Year and we all know what that means—resolutions. I hate resolutions. I really do. I mean, what was so wrong with me last year that this year I have to remake myself? Seriously? Was I so awful? Wait. You probably shouldn't answer that. Let's just move on to my 2015 New Year's Resolutions that I may actually keep:

Take the high road at Calero County Park

On my previous visits to Calero County Park, I have always walked the lower portions of the park nearer the reservoir. This terrain bobs and rolls over round hills dotted with coast live oaks, valley oaks and bay trees. As you move away from the lake toward the park's southern boundary, the Bald Peaks ridge leaps 1,000 feet above the reservoir. From that high perch, the full sweep of the Bay Area spreads out beneath you.

Brand new year, same old challenges?

Here we are, first week of January, clouds of holiday tissue finally swept from beneath our feet. A Christmas ornament, dropping from a dehydrated branch, plops on the rug, rolls hollowly onto the hearth. New Year's resolutions tap us on the shoulder, reminding us of our newly-minted vows. Get organized. Drop those Christmas pounds. Bring the budget back into check.

Canucks send San Jose to third straight loss, 3-1

SAN JOSE – The logjam involving the four teams trailing Anaheim in the Pacific Division left only two teams tied after two games were played Tuesday night.

Guest view: No one wants our hospital to close

During the 13 years I’ve worked at St. Louise Regional Hospital, I’ve met a lot of community members, including the patient who recently told me that I conducted her ultrasound exam when she was pregnant with her son, who is now 13 years old. I was touched that she remembered me.
