Every fall and spring, the High Point Furniture Market presents all the newest and most colorful home furnishing products to the design community. The colors most prevalent during the fall market are indicators of what you will see in stores for the upcoming year. Here are color directions that jumped out at us at this fall’s market—food for thought when you’re thinking about future updates to your home.

“Cirque Dreams Holidaze” arrives at the Center for the Performing Arts blazing with freshness and energy. A little different than what we are use to with other productions of this kind, but nonetheless entertaining and eye catching. This is a young offering of this type of production and has a ways to go to catch up to its big brother, but it’s on its way with no holds barred.

It’s that time of year again. The time when no matter what holiday you celebrate, families get together. We share a meal. We share time together. And generally this ends well with everyone radiating love and a full stomach when the celebration is over.

The pastime of backpacking is a tough sell, and that is a terrible shame. I will never win over the “my-idea-of-camping-is-a-night-at-the-Four-Seasons” crowd. After all, there is a good bit of burdened walking and doing without. I live on the 8000 block of Westwood Drive and I notice there is no speed sign going toward Welburn. We get a lot of speeders and motorcycles. It's terrible. They need to put a sign up. Thanks.

Louisa Mae Alcott's “Little Women” has never been out of print since it was first published in 1868. It was translated into a least a dozen foreign languages during Alcott's life and can now be found in 50 different languages including Bengali, Chinese, Indonesian and Urdu.

The main goal of advertising is to entice you to purchase a specific product. In order to increase your purchase of said product, recipes are often listed on the label. In a different move, Unilever, the manufacturer of Best Foods Mayonnaise—known as Hellmann’s east of the Rocky Mountains—cross promotes its product with a commercial for a recipe. This week, I feature the recipe currently being promoted just in time to make use of your Thanksgiving leftovers.

The holiday shopping season has certainly begun, judging from the decorations seen in local stores and the sales being advertised. However, this is not the “Christmas season” itself because, according to the traditional Christian calendar, that begins on Dec. 25 and continues through Jan. 5 (the famous “12 Days of Christmas”).
