Support our farmers, buy California grown
Many California consumers have a preference for California products over those produced elsewhere. For most folks, this preference is even stronger when it comes to the fresh produce we feed our families. In fact, 86% of California consumers report that “CA Grown” products matter to them. Hunting Hollow 5K/10K Fun Run and Walk
Saturday, June 14--Don’t miss this beautiful trail run—the out-and-back course trail is a slight uphill on the way out with a few rollers along the way. As the description below states, it is “relatively flat,” but as I said, don’t be surprised by the rollers. This is a great little race with lots of energy from runners and volunteers. It is a nice introduction to trail running for those who have not done so. And for veteran trail runners, well, it is not a tremendous challenge in terms of technical running, but it is still a trail, and running in the woods is a great way to spend your morning. The out-and-back format actually works well—you can see exactly who is ahead of you and where you are in the race.
Public invited to unique Summer Fest

The joy of community wine strolls
Although I wasn’t able to make it out to the recent wine strolls held in Hollister and Morgan Hill, I did take advantage of the incredible weather last weekend to enjoy Gilroy’s Art and Wine Stroll.

Dry years shed light on H20 basin stewardship
In times of drought, the benefits of Santa Clara County's history of groundwater management are more evident than ever, especially for our local farmers and ranchers. Unlike many of their counterparts in the Central Valley, local growers are able to tap into a healthy aquifer for a minimal charge, despite the fact that we are now in our third consecutive dry year.
South Valley Characters: Meet Michelle Gonsolin
When Gilroy resident Michelle Crowell Gonsolin decided to become a veterinarian, it was going to take more than a hurricane to blow her off course.
Getting Out: Reap the reward of the Mt. Tallac Challenge
Last winter, I challenged you to join me on a climb up Mt. Tallac this summer. Judging from the attendance at our various prep hikes and the email and Facebook buzz I am getting, many of you have accepted the challenge. Last week, I took a detour on my return from Modoc County and climbed the mountain to refresh my memory.
