Joe Ruiz passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 22nd, at the age of 72 years. Joe was a native of Hollister, attended local schools, and lived here all his life. Joe could be recognized pedaling his bicycle through out San Benito County and especially downtown Hollister, stopping at his favorite coffee shops to visit with his many friends. He enjoyed visiting with people and offering a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance. Illness forced him to stop bicycling a year ago. Joseph had been an employee of Yamanishi Farms, as well as the Hollister Cannery; and is a member of Sacred Heart Parish.
Public viewing for friends of Elsie will be on Thursday, January 17th, 2013, from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M., at Grunnagle’s Funeral Home (870 San Benito St. Hollister). Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Hollister, (corner of Fifth & College) on Friday, January 18th, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. A private entombment will follow the services. Ryan McFall, 23, Tres Pinos, CA, died on January 13th 2012, from injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident in Hollister, CA. Ryan was born July 3rd 1988, in Rutherglen, Scotland. He arrived in Cupertino, CA with his family in April 1994 and moved to Tres Pinos in July 1996.
Robert Hopkins passed away in Maui, HI at the age of 52. He and his wife, Kathy, honeymooned in Maui and returned to celebrate their 28th wedding anniversary in a place they loved. Robert was born in San Jose, CA and had lived in Hollister since 1989. His two children were his pride and joy. Robert loved fishing, camping and working in his garden, not to mention the game of baseball. He loved everything about the sport and was involved in every aspect, from following the Atlanta Braves, serving on the Board of Hollister Little League and Babe Ruth, coaching at every level along the way, and mostly being an avid fan at his son's games.
