Prep Football: Gilroy shifts focus to league

GILROY—As far as Gilroy High is concerned, the last four weeks don’t matter. The Mustangs want to put their preseason struggles behind them and focus on the task at hand: their Monterey Bay League-Pacific Division opponents.

Christopher rode the hot hand of Chad Hartman to complete a 10-point comeback to defeat Hillsdale 64-51 and advance to the championship game at the Bulldog Chase Friday.

Soccer: Jimenez, GHS boys top Pajaro, 3-1

Andres Jimenez scored on second-half assists from David Valencia and Raymundo Gonzalez, and Gilroy High's boys soccer team rolled to a 3-1 victory over Pajaro Valley on Friday at Watsonville High.

Gilroy High fills a pair of coaching vacancies

It has been a busy six months on the coach-search front at Gilroy High School. Vacancies have popped up at a dandelion-like rate with coaches leaving posts for a variety of reasons. But with the fall season fast approaching, GHS filled two coaching voids, hiring Kassi Swalboski for girls varsity volleyball and Tim Jones for boys varsity basketball, athletic director Julie Berggren said Tuesday.

MORGAN HILL—Zach Heffernan waited patiently for his chance to make a contribution to the Live Oak football team. And on Friday night—a night when Live Oak’s big play makers were making big plays—Heffernan found a way to standout in a 42-14 win over Christopher.
